Learning Disabilities

Learning disabilities are neurological disorders that affect one's ability to understand or use spoken or written language, do mathematical calculations, coordinate movements, or direct attention. Learning disabilities can be lifelong conditions which may affect many aspects of a person's life: school or work, daily routines, family situations, etc.  They can also interfere with higher level skills such as organizing, time planning, abstract reasoning, long or short term memory and attention.

The signs and symptoms of learning disabilities for a child are most often diagnosed during school days. Parents should take care of their children with learning disabilities to achieve such success by encouraging their strengths, knowing their weaknesses, understanding the educational system, working with teachers/ therapists and learning about strategies for dealing with specific difficulties. Also Learning disabilities should not be confused with other disabilities such as autism, intellectual disability, deafness, blindness, and behavioral disorders. None of these conditions are learning disabilities.
